Small Stone for Jan. 15, 2015

Jan 15

“Let us put our minds together and see what life will make for our children.”—Hunkesni (Sitting Bull), Hunkpapa Sioux, 1831-1890.

Sitting Bull, from Wikipedia

Ghost Dancers prayed for the return of the dead,
the return of their land from those who took it away.
We are still here, still passing on inheritance to our children.

In the name of other distant gods, there are
those who have sought to take away
what we believe belongs to us.

We are still here. Yet I wonder how well
have we served as steward for the generations to come?
What kind of world will be theirs to preserve?
